Originally thought it was an airplane as I was near an airport but the size and speed and color, most notably fragmentation is what made me stop my car and observe. I firmly believe this was an asteroid or other object based on the color gradient and trailing fragments.

Fragmentation was pretty obvious and is what made me stop to watch. Anywhere from 2-3 fragments at a time until they disappeared.
